Season 2008/2009

Sunday November 9th

Brownhills Colts 1 Wyrley Panthers 0.
Lane Head Strikers 8 Brownhills Colts 0.

The Colts started brightly on a very heavy pitch and played some decent football considering the conditions.  CLIFTON-COLES donned the green shirt as regular goalkeeper HALL broke his toe earlier in the week, there was also a new line up at the back with FLUTE coming in to partner FOLLOWS. The Colts went on the offensive and took the game to The Panthers, there were a couple of chances early on but it was about half way through the first half when a long goal kick from CLIFTON-COLES found COOKE in the midfield, the cross field pass to WESTWOOD sent him through on goal which was slotted into the corner passed the keeper, BROUGH and NTIRUHUNGWA came close on a couple of occasions and COOKE had a shot from outside the area which ex-Colts man Miller-Flynn cleared off the line, a corner then hit the post off the goalkeeper but the score remained 1-0 at half time.  The Panthers came out for the second half looking to level the score and went close when a cross come shot, hit the bar and another was pushed on to the post by CLIFTON-COLES.  ROBERTS and FOLLOWS had their work cut out as The Panthers tried to get the equaliser. Brownhills then pushed hard to try and get a second again coming close but it was not to be and the game finished with the 3 points going to The Colts.
The second game of the day was completely the opposite of the first, with The Colts allowing The Strikers to run through them onto goal with ease, they paid the price of some lacklustre tackling and lack of effort, in fact if I didn't know better I would say that someone swapped the whole team for another.  Having said that we still managed to create a few chances and even getting a penalty, this was smashed against the underside of the bar by BROUGH giving the Strikers keeper absolutely no chance, it then bounced down behind the keeper and from where I stood it looked like a goal, but was not given.

Player of the Week; CLIFTON-COLES

Great result in the first game forget about the second and nice to see some 'football' being played, I think the team is beginning to pull together and I am sure the results will follow.
