Silverdale Rangers 5 - 2 Brownhills C.C.
A good game of football with both teams giving 100% effort and
enthusiasm on a windy and rain lashed afternoon at Walstead Road,
Playing Fields, Walsall.
Brownhills played some excellent football putting Silverdale under
pressure but were unable to create a good scoring opportunity
kicking into a strong wind. Two individual mistakes and a penalty
prevented Brownhills getting a point which they fully deserved.
Silverdale took the lead with a scrambled goal from close range,
and added a second from the penalty spot.
H.T. 2 - 0
Brownhills started the second half strongly with the wind at their
backs putting Silverdale under sustained presseue, resulting in
Damon Cotton scoring from a fantastic
header from a training ground rehearsed corner. Brownhills kept
pushing forward and against the run of play Silverdale scored
a cracker from the corner of the 18 yard box, making it 3 - 1
to Silverdale.Another scramble goal made it 4 - 1 game over ?
No .
Brownhills kept applying the pressure and Reece
Heath scored a direct free kick from 25 yards to make the
game 4 - 2 .
With a nervy 15 mins to go Silverdale players and staff were starting
to get edgy, culminating with them asking the ref on several occasions
how long was left.
For all their pressure Brownhills were unable to capitalise again
and Silverdale made it 5 - 2 with a shot from the edge of the
box which managed to find its way through several bodies into
the back of the net.
F T 5 - 2
With all Brownhills players having a very good game it was almost
impossible to pick a man of the match.
Josh Marney, was excellent playing
up front for the first time.
Dan Jackson ran himself into the
ground with an energetic display.
Damon Cotton leading by example gave
a typical captains performance at centre half.
Harvey Witts with his best performance
for the team at right back stayed calm under pressure,
strong in the tackle and calm in posession.
Man of the match Harvey Witts.
All staff, players and parents would like to wish Tom
Darby Ralph a speedy recovery after his recent operation.
