SEASON
2010/2011
Brownhills Community Colts 1 v 2 Brereton Town
(Half time 0-1)
9th April 2011
There are lots of words that could describe this game; some not suitable
for print and “fair” would not immediately spring to mind!
Brownhills found themselves a goal down in the first half, due to an
extremely dubious free kick, awarded late, following some vociferous
referee-baiting. However, Colts failed to order a wall or deal with
the threat, and ultimately paid the price. Most of the play in the remainder
of the half was positive, with some fantastic passing and movement by
Alina Chalkia, Zoe
Cotton and Denna-Lee Burton. A collective
thorn in the opposition side all game.
The second half could not have started better, with Elisha
Nash scoring an astounding goal, almost from the off. Elisha
and Zoe worked well together and caused Town some real headaches.
Unfortunately, they fell foul of at least two ludicrous off-side decisions.
Brereton were certainly rattled and resorted to claiming hand ball,
falling to the floor and being instructed to boot the ball as far across
the adjoining fields as they could, in a petty bid to waste time. However,
this made an unusual change from one substitute being utilised at least
a dozen times in the equivalent away match, for exactly the same reason.
Chelsea Gunn in goal had little to deal
with, but was tested when on a rare foray into the Colts area, Brereton
were awarded a penalty, apparently for a “push.” She almost
got a foot to it, but the penalty was well taken and Brereton were again
in front. Nikita Hitchen battled for and
won every single ball that came her way, despite the opposition management
yelling foul every time she was within a yard of their players. However,
this didn’t stop them from awarding her Girl of the Game! Nikita
was simply outstanding, and Brereton had no answer to her tenacity,
other than to whinge. Despite all the decisions going one way, amazingly
it was the Colts players that ended the game nursing injuries. Ridiculous
tactics ruined this game and belittled the effort of the opposition
girls.
