Season 2011/2012

Colts 0-1 Wyrley Panthers

Wyrley Panthers started off the brighter side on a blistery Saturday afternoon capitalising on a defensive error. The away side stormed through with 3 players facing Colts' keeper Molly Davies and made no mistake with the finish that followed. Having taken the lead though Panthers were under pressure as Colts persisted to find an equaliser. Molly Griffiths came close on many occasions but just could not find the back of the net. Danielle Whitworth had a fantastic first half in the middle of a packed out midfield which boasted a lot of strength considering we had 2 players out. Emily Dolman was isolated up front but almost made the most of a half chance gifted to her by the away side's inexperience. The away keeper had it covered though and Colts were still chasing. Changes were made and Lauren Sylvester who won The Managers award the previous game showed just how much she has come on since joining us. She battled hard in the midfield winning many challenges and freeing Molly Griffiths who was still unfortunate not to score. Ellie Trubshaw also had a great game, managing to free some space out wide and plough forward with the ball but it appeared the away side were prepared to sit on their 1 goal lead as there were always 4 players back behind the ball. Jasmine Turner was easily the best player on the pitch this week as she was a menace at the back. Jasmine was tenacious throughout the game and looked comfortable and dominated the play at the back. Everything came from her as Colts were still seeking an equaliser. The second half started off much different to the first, Colts were adamant on levelling terms as Molly Griffiths whipped in a free kick that caught Estelle Smith in the face and made it's way towards goal. The keeper collected the straying ball and gave it back to us as Jasmine Turner picked it up to launch another attack. Molly Griffiths breaking free of the defence but no-one was in the middle to tap the home. Emily Adams returned to the field after a storming display in the first half. Emily picked the ball up in the middle skipped past the first challenge and playes a nice ball to Molly who played it back across to Leah Hackett who lifted the ball over the keeper and unfortunately over the bar. Colts were slowly running out of luck and the equaliser was appearing even more distant as Panthers launched an attack against the run of play and a mix up at the back allowed the ball to trickle towards goal to which Molly Davies picked up. The away side were adamant the ball had crossed the line but the referee said the ball hadn't crossed the line and Panthers' celebrations were halted as Colts hit back on the counter attack only for Molly Griffiths' shot to be pulled a yard wide of the goal. A fantastic performance despite the defeat. A really solid performance from everyone who had played.
